Audi has decided to throw out its V12 TDI version of the Q7. It wasn’t such a good idea in the first place since gas prices have been rising and large SUVs should now only come with efficient and torquey diesel engines. A report from omniauto.it states that the model hasn’t had high sales and it hadn’t done anything to improve Audi’s image but what sealed its fate was that Audi will soon offer a new V6 TDI that was tuned up to offer comparable performance.
It is believed to debut on the new A6; however, some sources say that it will be seen first on the S6. The new V6 TDI is expected to eventually replace most V8 TDIs. What Audi accomplished is impressive, considering that the Q7 V12 TDI has a sportscar-like output of 500 hp and 1,000 Nm of torque (737 lb-ft) from a six-liter capacity.
It enables the car to accelerate from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 5.5 seconds and it can reach an electronically limited maximum speed of 250 km/h (155 mph). When the V12 diesel was first presented in 2008, it was expected to be groundbreaking in the diesel segment. Back then, tests were being done on a R8 supercar that featured the same unit.
