Powertrain enhancements will be offered in the refreshed Ford Mondeo range, which is the company’s flagship large car in the UK. These enhancements cover the 1.6, 2.0 and 2.2-litre displacements, and they have emissions ratings that are lower by as much as 20% compared to previous models. Kevin Griffin, Ford of Britain fleet director, said that to meet the customers' demand for performance, comfort and refinement as well as outstanding fuel economy, Ford will introduce its new small displacement diesel engine and Auto-Start-Stop system to Mondeo.
The Ford Mondeo's powertrain lineup shows off the 1.6 engines' all-round capability, while its 2.0 range provides unparalleled performance. Auto-Start-Stop is offered in the 1.6 TDCi and 1.6 EcoBoost as standard. It’s the most efficient Mondeo ever as it will feature the diesel's CO2 emissions rating of 114g/km, equivalent to 65.7mpg for both five-door and estate bodystyles. Its emissions are lowered by 12%, or 25g/km, compared with the 2.0-litre 140 hp diesel engine.
The other Ford ECOnetic Technologies that led to this achievement include an aero kit, which consists of lowered suspension, smart regenerative charging, Active Grille Shutter and Eco Mode driver feedback. The sensors of the Auto-Start-Stop system detect it when the driver does something that implies the intention to drive off, like pressing the accelerator or clutch pedal. The engine starts almost instantly when the driver starts to move away. This process is nearly indiscernible, and takes place before gear selection is completed. After the 2.0-litre EcoBoost range-topping petrol choices were presented during the launch of the new Ford Mondeo, the Titanium series received a premium 2.2 TDCi 200 hp diesel. It’s impressive how the engine maintained its fuel economy at 47.1 mpg UK but still be able to deliver 420Nm of torque (450Nm with overboost). Ford's six-speed automatic transmission comes with the diesel flagship. [via - 4wheelsnews]
