Honda recalls 2010-2011 Accord, Pilot cars over suspension-failure risk

Honda is recalling about 10,800 Accord and Pilot models produced as part of the late 2010 and 2011 model years. Honda said that the problem is related to potential front suspension failure. Honda says the defect stems from the assembly lines of the models, where the machinery didn’t properly accomplish its task of tightening the spindle nuts on the front axles of both vehicles, as well as the damper attachment bracket bolts for the Pilot. It wasn’t Honda that detected the problem.

Instead, the flaw was discovered by its Honda Manufacturing of Alabama plant where the models are manufactured. They found a flaw in the software which operates the machine. Honda has announced the recall as a precaution. Honda will be notifying the owners of the vehicles that are covered by the recall. They will be asked to bring their vehicles to the dealers to be inspected and repaired if necessary.

"A potential problem with the machinery used to tighten the spindle nuts on the front axles of both vehicles, as well as the damper attachment bracket bolts for the Pilot, may cause the front suspension of a small number of these vehicles to fail. A flaw in the software for the equipment used for this assembly process was identified at Honda Manufacturing of Alabama, LLC (HMA).
