2011 Ford Explorer earns a Top Safety Pick rating from IIHS

The IIHS crashtested the 2011 version of the Explorer and found out that the model has terrific safety features and that it is mostly aimed for families. As many expected, the new Explorer scored Good in all tests, offset frontal, side and rear, and roof strength evaluations, making it earn the Top Safety Pick. Sue Cischke, Ford group vice president of Sustainability, Environment and Safety Engineering, said that the Ford Explorer establishes a new standard for advancements in safety features.

The Explorer features many new innovative technologies, such as available industry-first production rear inflatable seat belts, and Curve Control, which can assist drivers in maintaining control of a vehicle if they enter a curve too quickly. The 2011 Explorer offers a wide variety of standard features.

For instance, about 22% of the first 19,000 orders asked adaptive cruise control with forward collision warning, active park assist and rain-sensing wipers. Meanwhile, 40% of the buyers were seeking for the Blind Spot Information System (BLIS) with cross traffic alert.[via-4wheelsnews]
